Welcome!

The Breastfeeding Coalition of San Joaquin County

is your link to breastfeeding resources

in San Joaquin County and beyond.

For Expectant Parents
Breastfeeding is a special gift only you can give your baby. Use our website to learn more about breastfeeding before your baby’s birth. Find out where to take a prenatal breastfeeding class and where to buy nursing bras. Get information about breastfeeding help through the WIC program and breastfeeding support groups. We also have links to the best breastfeeding information sites on the web.

For New Parents

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! The first days and weeks after your baby’s birth are a learning time for all of you. It is not unusual to have questions or concerns about nursing your baby. Don’t let a little problem or concern grow into a big one. Even mothers who have successfully nursed a first baby often have questions about nursing the next one.

Don’t hesitate to call the telephone help lines or the support groups listed on our resource pages whenever you have a breastfeeding question or a problem. You will also find lists of professional lactation consultants and places to rent electric breast pumps in San Joaquin county.

For Breastfeeding Families

Enjoy this special time. You are giving your baby the very best start in life! But don’t be surprised if you still have questions about breastfeeding as your child grows. Nursing an older baby is different than breastfeeding a newborn. You may also be going back to work or school and need information about making this transition while continuing to breastfeed.

Use our resource pages to find telephone help lines, support groups, and breastfeeding classes designed for working mothers. We also have links to breastfeeding websites with information about nursing as your child grows, breastfeeding and working, and your legal rights as a breastfeeding mother. And if you are someone blessed with an abundant supply of breastmilk, we have information about how you can donate your milk to the Mother’s Milk Bank to help save the life of a sick child.

For Health Care Professionals

Your support of breastfeeding makes a difference in our community. Our resource pages offer a wealth of information you can share with your clients.   Click here for a printable copy of the 2007 "Guide to Breastfeeding Support Services in San Joaquin County" you can distribute to your clients.

We also have information about how to access the Mother’s Milk Bank to obtain breastmilk for premature or sick infants under your care.

Check here often for information on upcoming breastfeeding conferences and continuing medical education programs. Add your name to our mailing list for local breastfeeding seminars. We also have links to websites with professional and technical breastfeeding information.
