| The San Joaquin County Breastfeeding
Coalition is working with the Mother's Milk Bank
at Valley Medical Center in San Jose to increase
the amount of banked human milk available for
children in our community.
If you are a healthy, non-smoking, nursing mother
with plenty of milk for your own baby, as well
as some "extra" to help meet the needs
of another child, the Mother's Milk Bank needs
you. Your "gift from the heart" will
help nourish premature babies and other high-risk
infants.
All donor mothers first go through a careful
(no cost) medical screening. They receive instruction
from Mother's Milk Bank employees on proper
handling techniques and are provided with sterile
glass bottles for milk storage. Donor mothers who have completed
the screening process can ship their bottles
of milk directly to the Mother's Milk Bank in
pre-paid shipping containers.
Donated milk
is taken to the Mother's Milk Bank in San Jose
for processing. There it is carefully tested
and pasteurized, and then distributed to those
in greatest need.
